Retirement is not what is used to be. Today, we’re living longer, enjoying better health, are more educated and yes, more affluent, so the clichéd rocking chair on the rickety veranda is no longer an aspiration or a reality. Relaxation as a retiree’s dream has been replaced by respite from the rat race and the traffic, noise and smog of modern urban life.
In short, we want less of that, and more of this: Wyndways on Willowford. Howard Pascoe, at age 48, was excited about finding the perfect future retirement option. He visualised a home away from city stresses, ideally in or near a small country town where he could retreat for holidays and gradually integrate himself into the community in preparation for an active retirement. He also wanted this chosen spot to offer a perfect getaway for the family while he was still working. Howard sought a retirement which would expand his horizons instead of diminishing them. Finally he found a 640ha farm, a 150ha portion of which architect Jonno Smith identified as ideal for developing a hobby and craft farm for vibrant retirees. The site has spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains and an excellent position close to Estcourt in the KZN Midlands.
Howard and Jonno soon pinpointed the best sites, and
Jonno set about designing the farmstyle architecture that characterises the development. Today, Wyndways on Willowford offers buyers a future full of possibilities. Not only does the development feature spacious freestanding homes on big stands, but homeowners share a unique, creative vision. Wyndways is designed for retirees who wish to immerse themselves in their hobbies, a craft or an agricultural project, practically on their doorstep. Six hectares have been demarcated for tunnel culture and craft shops, and 18ha for irrigated farming.
Ever dream of producing and selling your own fresh cut flowers? Perhaps you picture a huge greenhouse with rows of exotic orchids or gourmet mushrooms... At Wyndways, facilities are provided so that homeowners can pursue their passions and dreams: to create ceramics or fine art, or to roll up their sleeves and practice hydroponic farming, for example – the possibilities are endless. In short, the developer seeks to ensure that prospective buyers are positive, productive contributors who are looking forward to an active retirement.
